The holiday season in Fargo is set to begin with a festive array of events over the next two weekends, starting with the much-anticipated Christkindlmarkt. This European-style open-air market will take place at the Fargo Civic Center from November 24 to 26 and again from November 28 to 30. Guests can enjoy a variety of holiday gifts and goods, making it a perfect opportunity for early shopping.

Vendors will fill the outdoor mall area between the Civic Center and the Fargo Public Library, offering a cozy atmosphere complete with fires for marshmallow roasting and live demonstrations, including blacksmithing. Inside, attendees will find food and beverage options alongside a bustling lineup of performers on the main stage. The first weekend highlights include a festive tree lighting ceremony at 18:00 on Friday and previews of the classic ballet “Nutcracker” throughout the weekend. Admission is priced at $10 for adults, while children aged 17 and under can attend for free.

Comedy, Crafting, and Cultural Experiences

On the same evening as the market’s opening, comedian Jamie Lissow will perform at the Fargo Theatre as part of his “Better Off Dad” tour. Known for his appearances on FOX News’ late-night show “Gutfeld!”, Lissow will bring his family-friendly humor to Fargo, with the show set to begin at 20:00. Tickets for this event are available for $37.

The weekend will also feature the Pride of Dakota Showcase at Scheels Arena, where over 150 regional vendors will present their products. This event, running from November 24 to 25, offers a wide selection of arts, crafts, baked goods, and more, making it an ideal spot for holiday shopping. Admission is free.

The Fargo-Moorhead Opera will stage the beloved holiday classic “Amahl and the Night Visitors” at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead. Performances are scheduled for 18:30 on Friday and Saturday, with a 14:00 matinee on Sunday. This one-act opera by Gian Carlo Menotti tells the touching story of a poor boy and his mother who encounter the three wise men. Tickets are priced at $21.

Community Celebrations and Artistic Showcases

On November 25, students from Minnesota State University Moorhead will present an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling”, reimagined as “The Cafeteria Duckling”. This family-friendly performance will take place at 14:00 in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts, with free admission, though reservations are required.

Holy Cross Catholic Church in West Fargo will hold its 16th annual craft and vendor show on November 25, featuring more than 85 local makers selling a variety of crafts and products. The event runs from 08:30 to 15:00 and includes lunch options for attendees, with an admission fee of $2.

Art enthusiasts can also visit the Rourke Art Gallery + Museum on November 25 for a reception featuring artist Carl Oltvedt. His new show, “A Quiet Life: Echoes of the Natural World”, will showcase recent paintings and drawings of various birds. The event, which includes a gallery talk at 14:00, is free and open to the public.

As the holiday season unfolds, Fargo offers a vibrant mix of events that celebrate community spirit and cultural heritage, making it a prime destination for both residents and visitors alike.
