A trio of former South Alabama defenders have found new homes as they prepare for the 2026 college football season. Linebacker Blayne Myrick, defensive lineman Dominic Wiseman, and linebacker Hughes have all announced their transfers, joining a growing list of Jaguars players moving to different programs.

Blayne Myrick, a standout during his tenure at South Alabama, was named a second-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection in both 2024 and 2025. In the 2025 season, Myrick led the Jaguars with 84 tackles and had a remarkable total of 101 tackles in 2024. The Fairhope High School graduate was also recognized as the preseason Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year.

Myrick’s transfer marks a significant step for the player, who has two years of eligibility remaining. His impressive statistics reflect a commitment to excellence on the field, and he is expected to make an immediate impact at his new destination.

Similarly, Hughes, who has struggled with injuries throughout his career, finally enjoyed a healthy season in 2025. Over the past four years, he played in 34 games, accumulating 66 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. With one year of eligibility left, Hughes aims to further develop his skills and contribute to a new team.

Meanwhile, Dominic Wiseman, who joined South Alabama as a junior-college transfer in 2025, has also committed to a new program after a solid season. In his single year with the Jaguars, the defensive lineman recorded 23 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one sack. Wiseman’s performance on the field showcased his potential, and he too has one year of eligibility remaining.

These transfers come at a time when the NCAA transfer portal remains open for new entrants until January 16, 2026. Players in the portal can announce their destination at any time, allowing for a dynamic reshaping of rosters across collegiate football.

Other notable former South Alabama players, such as cornerback Nehemiah Chandler, have also committed to new programs, indicating a broader trend of athletes seeking fresh opportunities in their college careers. This wave of transfers highlights the evolving landscape of college football as players seek to maximize their potential and find the right fit for their skills.

As the offseason progresses, the moves of Myrick, Hughes, and Wiseman will be closely watched by fans and coaches alike, eager to see how these athletes will perform in their new environments. The anticipation builds as they prepare for the upcoming season, aiming to make their mark in collegiate football once again.
