UPDATE: A shocking incident has unfolded in the Bronx, where Katrell Dixon, a 31-year-old ex-con, was brutally stabbed to death outside a liquor store late Monday night. The attack occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Third Ave. near E. 165th St., leaving his family grappling with yet another devastating loss.
Katrell’s mother, Sharon Dixon, expressed her anguish, stating, “It’s a mother’s worst nightmare.” This tragedy is compounded by the fact that she lost Katrell’s older brother, Cory Dixon, to gun violence 12 years ago. Sharon, a retired MTA supervisor, told the Daily News from her home in Soundview, “But there is growth in tragedy… It just draws me closer to God.”
Witnesses report that Katrell was involved in an argument outside the liquor store when the conflict escalated. The unknown assailant drew a knife and stabbed Katrell multiple times in the chest. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to Lincoln Hospital.
Katrell Dixon had recently been released from prison on July 12, 2023, after serving a six-year sentence for attempted murder stemming from a shooting in Queens. His parole was set to expire next June. “He was turning his life around,” said his surviving brother, Darnell Dixon, 40, emphasizing that Katrell was on the right path and was a devoted family member.
The family attributes Katrell’s struggles to the traumatic impact of losing Cory, who was shot dead in 2013 after an argument at a party. “When Cory died, Katrell’s life changed completely,” Darnell lamented. Cory, described as the “rock of the family,” left behind three daughters.
Cops are actively investigating the murder and are searching for the suspect, who fled the scene with a woman. The motive for the stabbing remains unclear. Authorities have not confirmed any gang affiliations related to this incident, although Katrell was previously linked to the “Billy Bad A–” gang, a subset of the Nine Trey Gangsters.
A nearby restaurant owner, Basilio Bellow, recounted the horrific scene, stating, “He [Katrell] was lying down on the ground against a car. He was stabbed, bleeding from the chest.”
This incident highlights a tragic cycle of violence affecting families in this community. As the investigation continues, Katrell Dixon’s loved ones are left to mourn yet another senseless loss.
As police intensify their search for leads, the community is urged to provide any information that could assist in apprehending the suspect. The family hopes for justice and healing amidst their profound grief.
