Edward Nicholas Yunker, an esteemed member of his community, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on August 1, 2025, at his home in Baxter, Minnesota. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Yvonne Yunker, with whom he shared 23 years of marriage.
Born on February 13, 1939, in Crosby, Minnesota, to Melvin and Ann Yunker, Ed was a dedicated individual who made significant contributions to both his family and community. Following his graduation from Crosby High School in 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving proudly as a radio operator.
In June 1962, Ed married Gayle Anderson, and together they welcomed three children: Brian, Amy, and Melissa. He worked for many years at Potlatch and retired in 1998.
Throughout his life, Ed pursued a variety of interests. He earned a brown belt in Karate and was actively involved in the Parent-Teacher Association. His passion for the performing arts led him to participate in numerous theatrical and vocal productions, with the Geritol Frolics being particularly dear to him. Ed and Yvonne not only performed but also directed and produced this local show, where he embraced the title of “Mr. Geritol Frolics.”
Family held the utmost importance for Ed. He was a proud grandfather to twelve and great-grandfather to eighteen. His legacy is continued by his surviving family members, including his wife, Yvonne; daughters Amy Carson and Melissa Yunker; as well as Yvonne’s children: Mark Hill, Margo (Reid) Johnson, and Marty (Stacy) Hill. He also leaves behind sisters Connie and Judy, brothers Ron and Dennis, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Patte and Ruth Ann, brother David, son Brian, and first wife, Gayle.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service. His interment, accompanied by military honors, will occur at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
