Edward Eugene Hosey Jr., affectionately known as Ned, passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2025, at the age of 78 due to ongoing health issues. His family and friends remember him as a dedicated individual whose contributions and spirit touched many lives.

Ned was preceded in death by his father, Attorney Edward Hosey; his mother, Marie B. Hosey; his sister, Catherine Hosey; and his brother, Michael Hosey. He is survived by his three sons, Edward E. Hosey III (wife Denise), Richard Jeffrey Hosey, and David Gilroy Hosey (wife Kat), along with grandchildren Evelyn, Hannah, Connor, and Gil Hosey. He is also remembered by his sister, Patricia Kosloski; uncle, Andrew Jack Barry; nieces, Colleen Roundhill and Leigh Thering; grandnephews, River and Owen Thering; and his longtime partner of over 30 years, Carol Sorber.

Early Life and Career

Born and raised in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, Ned graduated from St. Vincent’s High School in 1965. He was known for his athleticism, playing baseball as a pitcher in little league and later for the school’s baseball and basketball teams. Ned attended Misericordia University, where he honed his skills and became a master tradesman.

Throughout his career, he excelled in various roles, including as a commercial contractor, FEMA Inspector, and Gas Field Electrical Inspector. The majority of his professional life was dedicated to working with FEMA, where his strong leadership skills and calm demeanor during emergencies proved invaluable in numerous disaster relief efforts.

A Passionate Life

Beyond his professional achievements, Ned was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, known for his remarkable cooking skills, particularly his famous chili and spaghetti sauce. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Victory Church, where he served as an Usher, reflecting his commitment to community service.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Ned was an ardent supporter of Penn State and the New York Yankees. He cherished attending Penn State games and took great joy in supporting his grandchildren at their various activities. His grandsons, Gil and Connor, brought him immense happiness, especially as he cheered for Connor at sporting events.

The family has chosen to grieve privately at this time. A celebration of life honoring Edward Eugene Hosey Jr. is planned for a later date, and details will be shared as they become available.
