City officials in Edmond are actively engaging the community as they embark on a comprehensive update of the city’s development regulations. A series of Open House events is scheduled to discuss the proposed Unified Development Code (UDC), which aims to consolidate significant sections regarding zoning, subdivision, and stormwater management into a single, streamlined document. This initiative marks the first major update since 2007, reflecting a commitment to modernizing development practices in the city.

The Open House events, intended for residents, developers, and other stakeholders, will provide an opportunity to review and discuss the proposed changes. These modifications are designed to align with Edmond’s long-term growth objectives and promote sustainable development, as stated by the City of Edmond.

According to a press release from the city, the revamp of the UDC is focused on enhancing transparency for the public and maintaining the high living standards that residents have come to expect. The city believes that simplifying the regulatory framework will reduce complexities for property owners and developers while ensuring that growth adheres to current best practices.

Open House Schedule and Details

Residents will have three opportunities to engage with city officials and planning experts. The first meeting is set for February 26, 2024, from 15:00 to 18:00 local time. Two additional sessions are scheduled for March 3, 2024 (noon to 15:00) and March 11, 2024 (08:00 to 11:00). Each meeting will take place in the Main Street Conference Room and nearby Room 102 at City Hall, located at 22 E. Main St.

In addition to the main sessions, city staff will be available for one-on-one discussions post-event, allowing for deeper engagement with the draft code. Ken Bryan, the Director of Planning, emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting, “The Unified Development Code is a significant step forward for Edmond.” He highlighted that the updated code will better address the needs of a growing community.

The city encourages all interested parties to participate in these discussions, as community input is essential in shaping the future of Edmond. With the UDC poised to modernize the city’s approach to development, these Open House sessions will serve as a platform for residents to voice their opinions and ask questions regarding the forthcoming changes.
