Disney+ has announced support for HDR10+, enhancing its streaming capabilities on select Samsung smart TVs and monitors. This upgrade allows users to experience improved image quality through scene-by-scene metadata adjustments, setting a new standard for visual entertainment.
Advancements in Streaming Quality
The introduction of HDR10+ is a significant step for Disney+, which now joins the ranks of other platforms that support this technology. According to Inbeom Kim, the Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, “HDR10+ revolutionizes the way we enjoy content, offering enhanced contrast and more vivid colors for an unparalleled viewing experience.”
Samsung has been a major proponent of HDR10+, a royalty-free alternative to the widely adopted Dolby Vision HDR. Despite Dolby Vision’s popularity, several streaming services like Netflix, Apple TV+, and Amazon Prime Video have integrated HDR10+ into their offerings, paving the way for broader acceptance.
Availability and Future Plans
As of now, Disney+ boasts over 1,000 titles from Hulu available in HDR10+ format within its app. The streaming service has plans to expand this technology to additional content on both Disney+ and Hulu in the future. HDR10+ will be accessible on a variety of Samsung TVs, including Crystal UHD models from 2018 onward, as well as the latest Neo QLED 8K, Neo QLED 4K, OLED, The Frame Pro, The Frame, and QLED TVs.
This initiative marks a notable collaboration between Disney+ and Samsung, reflecting a commitment to enhancing the viewer experience through superior technology. As the streaming landscape continues to evolve, the integration of HDR10+ is expected to play a pivotal role in how audiences engage with digital content.
