The success of The Family Plan 2 has prompted speculation about a potential third installment in the franchise. Director Simon Cellan Jones hinted at the possibility during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, stating, “That’s for the audience to decide! Let’s wait and see how this one does. But we do have a few ideas for Family Plan 3!” Although no official announcement has been made regarding a third film, the reception of the sequel has been overwhelmingly positive.
In a gripping scene from The Family Plan 2 shared with Us Weekly, characters Dan Morgan, played by Mark Wahlberg, and Finn Clarke, portrayed by Kit Harington, confront one another amid unexpected family revelations. Finn holds Dan at gunpoint, revealing a family photo that uncovers their connection as brothers. “The vault scene was really intense,” Cellan Jones noted. “It was Mark and Kit’s first scene together, and they were really excited to dig into it. They didn’t need me to tell them how pivotal the scene was.”
The sequel continues the story of the Morgans, a family navigating chaos while on vacation in Europe. Dan, who runs a security firm, and his wife Jessica, played by Michelle Monaghan, find themselves embroiled in bank heists and thrilling car chases against a picturesque backdrop. This film follows the events of The Family Plan released in 2023, which revealed Dan’s past as a government assassin.
Cellan Jones expressed enthusiasm about revisiting the Morgans’ narrative, describing the experience of filming the second installment as rewarding. He remarked, “We were so happy to be back. We had a great time on the first movie, and the second time around we got back into our rhythm really quickly. And we were in London and Paris – what’s not to like!”
Both Wahlberg and Monaghan highlighted the enjoyment of collaborating again. Wahlberg, 54, shared his appreciation for Monaghan’s energy and enthusiasm, stating, “When it comes to chemistry, you either possess it or you don’t, but I have a great fondness for Michelle. Working with her is a joy… She truly is a bright presence that lifts everyone’s spirits.”
Monaghan, 49, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the strong dynamics within the cast. “I believe we have a great family dynamic that resonates with all families,” she said. The inclusion of Harington and Reda Elazouar, she noted, has further enriched the family’s representation and overall tone. “I feel incredibly fortunate that we all mesh so well,” Monaghan added.
Currently available for streaming on Apple TV, The Family Plan 2 has captured the attention and affection of audiences, leaving many eager for what the future holds for the franchise.
