The semifinals of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) flag football playoffs concluded on November 25, 2025, with both defending champions securing their places in the upcoming Super 7 championships. Central-Phenix City and Montgomery Catholic demonstrated their dominance once again, showcasing impressive performances that have set the stage for an exciting final.
Central-Phenix City, the top-ranked team in Class 6A/7A, decisively defeated Smiths Station 38-7 in a match that ended early due to the AHSAA mercy rule, with two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The Red Devils displayed their formidable skills, marking only the third game this season that progressed into the fourth quarter for the team. With this victory, Central-Phenix City extended their remarkable winning streak to 56 consecutive games, having only allowed points to two teams throughout the season.
In the 1A/5A bracket, Montgomery Catholic triumphed over Brewbaker Tech with a score of 25-12. This victory marked the Knights’ 16th consecutive win, bringing their season record to 21-4. They will face either No. 1 Moody or No. 5 Boaz in the Super 7 championship set for December 3, 2025. Moody and Boaz are scheduled to compete on November 26, 2025, at 18:00 in the North semifinals.
Amya Brooks was a standout player for Central-Phenix City, catching three touchdown passes from quarterback Mariah Harrison. Brooks recorded a total of seven receptions for 119 yards as the team surged to a 26-0 halftime lead. Harrison also shone with a strong performance, completing 16 of 24 passes for 233 yards. The Red Devils scored their final touchdown of the match with a six-yard rushing play by Harrison, solidifying their dominance before Smiths Station managed to score with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Brooke Norred to Lynzie Mounce.
Montgomery Catholic’s success was equally impressive, as junior quarterback Hayden Fitts led the team with a performance that included completing 14 of 22 passes for 157 yards and four touchdowns. Fitts not only excelled as a passer but also contributed significantly on the ground, rushing 13 times for 98 yards. The Knights overcame an early 6-6 tie, scoring 13 points in the second quarter to gain control of the match.
Reflecting on the victory, Montgomery Catholic head coach Whitney Toole expressed pride in her team’s execution, stating, “I’m so proud of the girls and the way they executed what we’ve practiced this week. Brewtech’s a great team, and we knew they would compete until the very end. Our girls played until the very last whistle, and I couldn’t be prouder.”
As the Super 7 championships approach, both Central-Phenix City and Montgomery Catholic will aim to continue their winning trajectories and defend their titles. The championship matches promise to deliver thrilling action as the best teams in Alabama compete for the ultimate prize.
