BREAKING: The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas has just announced the closure of its beloved rooftop ice-skating rink, a festive attraction that has delighted visitors since 2011. This year, the hotel will not open the 4,200-square-foot venue, marking the end of a cherished winter tradition.

Reports from the “Five Hundy by Midnight” podcast reveal that not only will the ice rink remain shuttered, but the hotel is also selling off its entire setup. This includes ice rink walls, a complete plumbing system for the ice, furniture, skates, and even a Zamboni, which runs but requires maintenance. The setup, currently stored in a Las Vegas warehouse, needs approximately five semi-trailers for transport.

Typically, the ice rink would have opened between October 25 and November 5, just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. The absence of this popular attraction leaves Fontainebleau Las Vegas as the only resort with a seasonal ice rink in Clark County, which used to compete with the Cosmopolitan’s venue.

The closure is particularly disappointing for fans who enjoyed skating while surrounded by Christmas music and stunning views of the Las Vegas Strip. Guests could relax in Adirondack chairs near fire pits, sipping on seasonal cocktails crafted with flavors like pumpkin and chocolate. The rink also hosted special themed nights, including “Mondays Date Skate” featuring holiday movies and “Throwback Thursdays” with music from past decades.

According to the auction listing, the sale of the rink’s equipment is restricted; the system cannot be sold or utilized within Clark County, NV. This move appears to prevent rival casinos from repurposing the ice rink setup.

The emotional impact of this announcement resonates with many who have made visiting the Cosmopolitan during the holiday season a tradition. As the ice rink closes, Las Vegas loses a unique festive experience, leaving many to wonder what will take its place this winter.
