UPDATE: Construction has officially commenced on an $8 billion “ultra luxurious” resort in Singapore, expanding the iconic Marina Bay Sands and Las Vegas Sands’ footprint in Asia. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 15, 2025, with significant figures in attendance, including Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Las Vegas Sands co-founder Miriam Adelson.
This ambitious project is not merely an extension of the existing Marina Bay Sands; it is a standalone development featuring a striking 55-story all-suite resort, luxury retail spaces, gaming facilities, and an expansive 200,000 square feet of meeting space. Robert Goldstein, CEO of Las Vegas Sands, emphasized the uniqueness of this venture, stating, “If you came expecting to hear about an extension of MBS, you’ve come to the wrong party. This is a brand-new building with a brand-new identity.”
The resort will showcase 570 suites and a stunning 76,000-square-foot rooftop area known as the “Skyloop.” This rooftop will feature an observation deck, restaurants, and gardens accessible to the public, alongside luxurious amenities such as infinity-edge pools and private cabanas exclusively for hotel guests.
A key highlight of the new resort will be a state-of-the-art 15,000-seat arena, designed by Populous—the architectural team behind Las Vegas’ Sphere—set to become a major venue for live events and entertainment.
The development is designed by Safdie Architects, renowned for their work on Marina Bay Sands and Jewel Changi Airport. Founder Moshe Safdie was also present at the groundbreaking, alongside Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu and Las Vegas Sands’ President and COO Patrick Dumont.
This new resort aligns seamlessly with Singapore’s “Tourism 2040” strategy, aiming to triple tourism revenue from MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) travelers. The project is expected to significantly contribute to Singapore’s long-term tourism goals, which increasingly rely on high-profile attractions and live entertainment offerings.
With multiple recent high-profile launches, such as Singapore’s first all-villa resort, Raffles Sentosa, and the upcoming Oceanarium, set to open next week, the island nation is poised for a tourism revival that could redefine its global image.
As construction progresses, all eyes will be on Singapore to see how this monumental project unfolds and its impact on the local economy. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
