UPDATE: A civil lawsuit against UFC star Conor McGregor alleging sexual assault has been dropped in a Miami court. The 49-year-old business executive who filed the suit voluntarily submitted a notice of dismissal on Wednesday, signaling the end of the legal battle that began earlier this year.
The allegations stem from a reported incident at a Miami Heat game held at the Kaseya Center in June 2023. The plaintiff accused McGregor of sexual battery, claiming the UFC fighter escorted her to the men’s restroom after initiating conversation in the Courtside Club area. The lawsuit was officially filed on January 14, but the Florida State Attorney’s Office chose not to pursue any criminal charges related to the case.
In a significant turn of events, the plaintiff’s withdrawal of the lawsuit comes with prejudice, meaning she cannot bring the case back to court in the future. McGregor, who is 37 years old, has consistently denied all allegations against him.
This dismissal follows a separate ruling in which McGregor was found liable for sexual assault in an unrelated case from 2018 in Ireland. He was ordered to pay the victim €248,000 (approximately $257,000), and an appeal against that ruling was denied.
McGregor has not fought in mixed martial arts since suffering a serious injury during a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. Despite the legal challenges, he has expressed a strong desire to return to the octagon, aiming for a potential comeback at the UFC’s White House card scheduled for June.
As this story develops, it highlights the ongoing impact of legal issues on athletes’ careers and reputations. The swift resolution of the lawsuit may come as a relief to McGregor as he navigates his future in the sport. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving situation.
