Sandra Jean DeVos Huber, a beloved wife and mother, passed away on November 10, 2025. She was born on November 3, 1945, in Albany, New York, to William and Sophia DeVos. Huber’s legacy as a dedicated volunteer and passionate advocate for reading and education profoundly impacted her community.
A graduate of SUNY Albany, where she earned a B.A. in 1968, Huber was known for her lifelong love of language and communication. Her journey led her to meet her future husband, Russell Huber, in 1968, and the couple married in 1976. As a mother to two sons, William Huber of Albany and Carl (Aubrey) Huber of Penfield, she actively contributed to their education and development.
In her community, Huber was involved with the Duanesburg Central School District, participating in reading programs and the Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO). She also served as a Boy Scout den mother, showcasing her commitment to youth development. Huber’s passion for volunteering extended to her work with PBS fundraising auctions and the WMHT RISE program, where she read for the print disabled.
Her professional life included many years with the Schenectady County Public Library, where she inspired a love of reading in countless individuals. Huber embraced a well-rounded life filled with hobbies such as creating stained glass art, enjoying mystery novels, and exploring new places on road trips. She was also known for her culinary skills, particularly in cooking and baking.
Huber is predeceased by her siblings, Catherine Agans and William DeVos, and is survived by her brother Kenneth DeVos. Her memory is cherished by her devoted husband, Russell, her two sons and daughter-in-law, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 14:00 to 16:00 at the White-Van Buren Funeral Home, located at 1779 Main St., Delanson, NY.
