Alfred Garr Jones, aged 81, passed away on December 7, 2025, in his hometown of Chesapeake. Known for his quick-witted humor and strong work ethic, he was a cherished member of the local community and the Woodland Heights Baptist Church.

Born and raised in Chesapeake, Alfred attended Princess Anne High School, where he not only excelled academically but also participated in music, playing the trumpet and singing with the Madrigal Singers. His talents led him to perform at prestigious venues, including the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach. Later in life, he continued his musical pursuits by singing barber shop quartet music with The Commodore Chorus and traditional music with The Virginia Beach Chorale.

After high school, Alfred pursued a trade apprenticeship with E. Calagari & Sons, establishing a distinguished career as a wallpaper hanger. For over fifty years, he worked across Virginia, becoming one of the best in the business. His skills were so highly regarded that he was often flown to various states by private clients, interior decorators, and businesses seeking his expertise.

In addition to his trade work, Alfred enjoyed a decade-long tenure at Cavalier Mazda, where he made numerous friends and left a lasting impression on his colleagues. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life; he completed the police academy and volunteered as an officer with the Chesapeake Auxiliary Police Unit during the 1970s and 1980s.

Alfred is survived by his daughter, Amy Jones Edwards and her husband Larry, son Greg S. Jones and his wife Emily, and grandchildren Marley and Cameron Jones. He also leaves behind sisters Shirley Jones Olha and Betty Jones Hurni, and brother Paul E. Jones. Alfred was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Layden Jones, his wife Jean A. Jones, and brothers J. Wesley Jones and Andrew L. Jones.
