A community effort led by Fort Worth ISD employee Kyle Murphy has ensured that every student at her elementary school will receive a Christmas gift this year. Faced with a funding shortfall for this annual tradition, Murphy mobilized support through social media and an Amazon wish list, rallying donations that transformed her home into a temporary workshop.

Murphy, who serves as a testing coordinator and data analyst at the Fort Worth Independent School District, recognized the need when she learned that her school, which serves approximately 400 students, lacked the budget to continue its longstanding custom. Many of these students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and for some, the gifts may be the only ones they find under the tree on Christmas morning.

“We realized we didn’t have the funds to continue this tradition, and I wasn’t going to let that happen,” Murphy recounted in an interview with Good Morning America. She quickly posted a message seeking help, stating, “I’ve got 55 days to come up with 400 Christmas presents.”

The response from the community was overwhelming. Murphy’s Amazon wish list was fully funded, and donations poured in, including a notable contribution of $1.80 from a high school student eager to help. Murphy and her family set to work, organizing boxes and transporting mountains of gifts to the school, as captured in videos shared online.

Murphy expressed her hope that these gifts would convey to students that they are cared for by people beyond their immediate circles. “No matter their circumstance, there are people out there that care for them, that don’t even know them, and that love them,” she emphasized.

In addition to toys, each student received a weighted stuffed animal and a stocking filled with goodies. The stockings were assembled by a 19-year-old girl who led a fundraising effort to create goody bags for the students, showcasing the community spirit behind the initiative.

The excitement and joy among the students have been palpable. Murphy’s daughter, Everly, shared her delight in seeing the kids’ happiness, stating, “It’s been wonderful seeing all the kids excited and happy.”

To honor Murphy and her family’s efforts, Good Morning America surprised them with a gift of a vacation aboard the Disney Cruise Line. The recognition highlights not only the impact of Murphy’s initiative but also the kindness and generosity of the community in ensuring a joyful holiday for all students.

As the festive season approaches, this story serves as a poignant reminder of the power of community collaboration and the importance of caring for one another, especially during challenging times.
