Roman Misorek, an esteemed member of the Duryea community, passed away at his home on November 23, 2025, at the age of 80. Born in Old Forge, he was the son of the late John and Tessie Zaloga Misorek. Misorek was a well-respected figure in his community, known for his commitment to service and passion for local sports.
He graduated from Scranton Preparatory School and later attended the University of Scranton and the University of Florida. Misorek dedicated a significant part of his professional life to the Department of Corrections before his retirement. His legacy continues through his active participation in community organizations, notably the Duryea Lions Club during his youth.
Misorak’s personal interests included a deep affection for the Philadelphia Eagles, which he followed fervently. Additionally, he was self-taught in computers, showcasing a lifelong commitment to learning and adapting to new technologies.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Smith, with whom he celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary on July 16. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Misorek was preceded in death by his brothers, Martin, John, and Stanley, who each played significant roles in his life.
Funeral Arrangements and Community Tributes
Funeral services for Roman Misorek will take place on Saturday, November 29, 2025, beginning at 9:00 am at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., located at 204 Main Street, Duryea. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 am at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, situated at 127 Stephenson Street, Duryea. Interment will occur at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Duryea. A viewing is scheduled for Friday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
