Richard Leahey, a lifelong resident of Oneida, passed away on October 13, 2025, at the age of 46. His death has left a significant impact on the community where he was well-known and loved.
Born on July 20, 1979, in Oneida, Richard was the son of Richard J. Leahey and Christine Harris Leahey. He graduated from Faith Heritage High School before furthering his education at the Texas Bible Institute. Over the years, Richard became an integral part of his community, known for his musical talent and dedication to his faith.
Community Involvement and Legacy
Richard was an active member of Discovery Church, formerly the Church of the Nazarene in Canastota. He was particularly passionate about music, often playing guitar as part of the church’s worship team. His contributions to the church and the joy he brought through music were cherished by many.
He is survived by his mother, Christine Leahey, of Oneida; his sister, Lori Wright, and her husband, William Wright, of Oneida Castle; and his brother, Pastor Jeff R. Leahey, along with his wife, Amy Leahey, also from Oneida. Richard was a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews, who will greatly miss his presence.
Richard was predeceased by his fiancée, Karen Smith, and a brother-in-law, John Potter. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and friends, who remember him for his kindness and commitment to his faith.
Funeral Arrangements
Funeral services for Richard Leahey will take place at 6 PM on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the Church on the Rock, located at 164 Madison Street, Oneida. Pastor Jeff Leahey will officiate the service, honoring his brother’s life and contributions.
