Louis R. “Lou” DiCerbo, a respected member of the Schenectady community, passed away on January 7, 2026, at the age of 95. His death occurred at Ellis Hospital, where he was surrounded by loved ones. Known for his warmth and generosity, DiCerbo leaves behind a legacy of service and dedication.
Life and Career
Born in Schenectady to the late Pasquale and Elvira Riccio DiCerbo, Lou dedicated much of his professional life to photography, primarily with the General Electric Company. He concluded his career at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, where his contributions were widely appreciated.
Beyond his professional achievements, Lou was deeply committed to community service. He volunteered at the Schenectady City Mission and took it upon himself to deliver bread from local bakeries, including Perreca’s and Panera Bread, to various organizations. His efforts supported the former Carmelite Monastery, the Ellis Hospital Emergency Room, and shelters for battered women, showcasing his dedication to those in need.
Family and Legacy
Lou is survived by his devoted wife, Rose DiCerbo, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. He is also survived by three children: Louis DiCerbo of Western Springs, IL (married to Robin Stafford, DMD), Margaret Golden of Niskayuna, and Marina DiCerbo of San Francisco, CA. Additionally, he leaves behind one sister, Esther Graham, and three grandchildren: Andrew, Olivia, and Dan. He was predeceased by one sister, Margaret Gray.
A wake will be held on January 12, 2026, from 16:00 to 19:00 at the Gleason Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on January 13 at 11:00 at St. Anthony’s Church, followed by burial at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Glenville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Schenectady City Mission, located at 425 Hamilton St., Schenectady, NY 12305. Lou will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the broader community, remembered fondly for his humor, warmth, and unwavering generosity.
