Arlene Hartman, a beloved member of her community, passed away on November 25, 2025, at the age of 87. Hartman, formerly a long-time resident of Sellersville, died at the Lutheran Community at Telford, leaving behind a rich legacy of service and love. She was the devoted wife of the late Glenn Hartman, Sr., with whom she shared 65 years of marriage before his passing in 2023.
Born on July 2, 1938, to the late Arthur and Ella Mae (Myers) Strouse, Arlene grew up in the local area and graduated from Sell-Perk High School. Throughout her life, she engaged actively in her community, working at various local establishments including the Lutz Pants Factory and the former Emil’s Diner in Sellersville. Additionally, she served as a consultant for both Mary Kay and Avon, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit. Mrs. Hartman retired in 1997 after serving as a cashier at Clemens Markets.
A Life of Faith and Community Engagement
Arlene was an active member of St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sellersville for over 60 years. Her contributions included singing in the church choir, volunteering with the Altar Guild, and serving as president of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA) for 25 years. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, influencing her commitment to community service and fellowship.
In addition to her religious activities, Mrs. Hartman was a member of the Buck-Mont Organ Club and the North Penn Homemakers. She had a passion for gardening and was known for her love of cats, antiquing, and traveling. Her interests also included watching the Philadelphia Phillies, collecting stamps and first-day covers, square dancing, and scrapbooking. Arlene was known for her vibrant personality and her ability to connect with people, often capturing memories through her photography.
Remembering Arlene Hartman
Arlene Hartman leaves behind her daughter, Barbara A. Nemecek, and her husband, James; a sister, Margie Derstine; several nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends and family who cherished her deeply. She was predeceased by her son, Glenn Hartman, Jr., who passed away in 1996.
A viewing will take place on December 5, 2025, from 10:00 to 10:55 a.m. at St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 25 E. Church St., Sellersville, PA 18960. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with a livestream available for those unable to attend in person. After the service, interment will occur at the Sellersville Cemetery.
