Maryann Yurko, aged 77, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, surrounded by her family at her home in Swoyersville. Known for her warmth and dedication, Maryann leaves behind a legacy of love and community spirit, particularly through her long-standing involvement at Saint Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church.

Born on March 20, 1948, in Kingston, Maryann was the daughter of the late Andrew Barilla Sr. and Margaret Drugotch Barilla. She was one of three siblings and graduated from the last class of the former Swoyersville High School in 1966. Following her passion for beauty and aesthetics, she earned her cosmetology certification from Empire Beauty School in Wilkes-Barre in 1967. For over four decades, Maryann operated a beauty parlor from her home, where she became a beloved figure in the community.

Maryann’s life was marked by her deep faith and commitment to her family. She and her husband, Richard R. Yurko, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on July 18, 2025. Richard described Maryann as not only his wife but also his best friend and soulmate. Together, they built a life filled with love and joy, raising two daughters, Kyra and Krisa, who were the center of Maryann’s world.

Passion for Family and Community

Maryann was known for her unwavering support of her family. She took great pride in watching her daughters flourish and adored her grandson, Jacob Botek. Her family recalls her as a nurturing presence, always encouraging and uplifting those around her.

In addition to her family, Maryann was an avid supporter of Penn State football, holding season tickets for 23 years. She cherished moments spent in her flower garden, ensuring that both her home and yard were meticulously maintained. Beach vacations, especially trips with family to the Caribbean and Ocean City, Maryland, were among her favorite pastimes.

Maryann’s faith played a significant role in her life. She was a devout member of her church, contributing her time and energy to various community activities. She is remembered fondly by fellow parishioners for her kindness and dedication.

Maryann is survived by her husband, Richard; their daughters, Kyra Yurko and husband Chris Botek; Krisa Yurko; and grandson Jacob Botek. She is also mourned by her brother, John Barilla, and his wife Jeanne, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Magistrate Andrew Barilla Jr., her sister-in-law, MaryAnn Charnetski Barilla, and her niece, Lisa Barilla.

Memorial Services and Legacy

Friends and family are invited to honor Maryann’s memory at a viewing scheduled for February 12, 2026, from 16:00 to 19:00 at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort. The Panachida Services will commence at 19:00, conducted by the Reverend Father Andrii Dumnych.

A celebration of Maryann’s life will take place on February 13, 2026, at 11:00 in Saint Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, 271 Tripp Street, Swoyersville. The Reverend Father Dumnych will lead the Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy. Following the service, interment will occur at Denison Cemetery in Swoyersville.

The family has requested that floral offerings be omitted. Instead, memorial contributions may be made in Maryann’s name to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, located at 30 E.D. Preate Drive, Suite 108, Moosic, PA 18507, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
