Ann L. Flannery, affectionately known as Annie, passed away peacefully at her home in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, on August 5, 2025. Surrounded by her devoted sister, Mary Flannery, and cousin, Ellen Selgrade, Annie’s spirit remained resilient despite her long battle with multiple sclerosis.
Annie, recognized as the ‘Mayor of Shenny,’ was known for her warmth, wit, and positivity, which left a lasting impact on everyone she met. Friends and visitors often found a welcoming embrace and a captivating story awaiting them at her door. A dedicated fan of Penn State football, she never missed a game, showcasing her deep-rooted passion for the team.
Annie’s daily life included cherished afternoons with her beloved pets, Frisco and Felicia, and an enthusiasm for shopping on QVC. Her sister Mary was by her side throughout her illness, providing unwavering support that exemplified their deep bond.
Legacy of Love and Laughter
Born in Shenandoah, Annie was the daughter of the late Thomas and Loretta Kleha Flannery. She attended Cardinal Brennan High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and her Master’s from Bloomsburg University. As a certified Reading Specialist, she dedicated her career to the Shenandoah parochial schools, influencing many young lives.
Annie is survived by her sister Mary, brothers Francis and Michael, and brother John, along with his wife Maria. She also leaves behind her cousin Ellen Selgrade and her husband Bo, as well as a large extended family, including numerous nieces and nephews. Each of her relatives fondly recalled how they felt like her favorite, thanks to her playful spirit and boundless affection.
Annie’s playful nature and her warm hugs will be deeply missed by her family and the community. The legacy she leaves behind is one filled with joy, laughter, and countless memories shared with loved ones.
Final Farewell
A visitation for family and friends will take place on Monday, August 11, from 08:30 to 10:30 at the Oravitz Home for Funerals, located at 40 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 at Divine Mercy Parish – Sacred Worship Site – St. Casimir’s, officiated by the Very Rev. James J. Koury. Burial will occur at the Annunciation BVM Cemetery in Shenandoah Heights after the Mass.
The Flannery family extends their gratitude to the many caregivers who provided support to Mary and Annie over the years. In lieu of flowers, they request that donations be made to the Father Walter Ciszek Chapel, a personal connection to Annie’s family.
