Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Frechette, a cherished mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, at the age of 68. Surrounded by her loving family, she fought bravely against cancer in her final days. Kathy was born on April 24, 1957, in Portsmouth, Virginia, and was a longtime resident of Lowell, Massachusetts.
Kathy dedicated her life to her family and community. She was actively involved in the Mill City Grows program, where she found joy in tending to community gardens, fostering a love for nature and sustainability. Her greatest pride came from being a mother and “Nannie” to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She created a nurturing environment that allowed her family to thrive.
Throughout her life, Kathy embraced the outdoors. She enjoyed gardening, camping, and in her younger years, hunting with her father. A passionate motorcyclist, she loved exploring mountain roads, reveling in the beauty of nature. Her kind and giving spirit earned her the affection of many, as she was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Kathy leaves behind her former husband, Joseph S. Frechette, who resides in Florida. She is survived by her two children, Kevin Frechette and his wife, Melissa, of Methuen, and Diana Frechette of Lowell. Her legacy continues through her ten grandchildren: Jocynia, Haley, Simeon, Ayden, Jolie, Nina, Cristian, Aubrie, Joseph, and Gabriel, as well as her great-grandson, Jevaun.
Family ties were important to Kathy, and she is also survived by her siblings, including Linda Linehan and her husband, Paul; Leonard “Buddy” Boley and his wife, Mary; Anita Santiago and her husband, Rigaberto; and Christopher Norwood. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Kathy was predeceased by her sister, Pamela “Penny” Simard.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at the M. R. Laurin & Son Funeral Home located at 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell, on December 2, from 16:00 to 19:00.
