Residents of Meridian, Mississippi, have an opportunity to enhance their understanding of heart health at the upcoming Healthy Heart Awareness Lunch & Learn, organized by the Community Health Improvement Network (CHIN). The event is scheduled for February 11, 2026, at noon, taking place at NorthPark Church, located at 7770 Highway 39 North. This free event is open to the public; however, attendees must RSVP by February 9 to secure their spot.

Attendees will hear from Dr. Eesha Khan, a cardiologist who will provide insights into cardiovascular diseases, highlighting heart disease and stroke as the leading causes of death in Mississippi. Dr. Khan will discuss how coronary artery disease impacts the major blood vessels that supply the heart and emphasize the importance of early symptom recognition in saving lives.

One of the critical points Dr. Khan will cover is the difference in heart disease symptoms between men and women. While men are more likely to experience chest pain, women may exhibit subtler warning signs, such as shortness of breath, nausea, or extreme fatigue. These symptoms are often overlooked or misinterpreted, making awareness crucial.

Beverly Knox, President of CHIN, underscored the event’s significance in fostering community education. “Heart disease impacts families across our region, and too often the warning signs go unrecognized,” she stated. “This Lunch & Learn gives our community the opportunity to better understand heart health, recognize symptoms, and take proactive steps toward prevention.”

This initiative is part of CHIN’s commitment to providing accessible health information and preventive care, particularly targeting underserved and at-risk populations. Since its inception in 2016, CHIN has collaborated with healthcare providers, community organizations, and faith-based groups to address critical health needs identified through local assessments.

The Healthy Heart Awareness Lunch & Learn is not just an event but a vital step towards building a healthier community. By educating residents about heart health, CHIN aims to empower individuals to recognize the signs of heart disease and take action for their well-being.
