URGENT UPDATE: The Amherst Comets delivered a stunning performance against the Lorain Titans, securing a decisive 70-59 victory in a thrilling nonconference matchup on December 23, 2025. This victory marks the Comets’ third consecutive win, improving their record to 6-1 as they remain undefeated in the Southwestern Conference.

Amherst coach Pat Bray emphasized the team’s physicality as a crucial factor in the second half. “We talked about it at halftime and said that we were not physical enough, like we normally are. In the second half, we said that we had to come out and be physical, and that is what we did,” Bray stated after the game. The Comets entered halftime with a slim 34-31 lead but unleashed a powerful third-quarter surge, fueled by standout performances and strategic plays.

The turning point came early in the third quarter, as the Comets capitalized on Titans’ turnovers, leading to an 11-2 run sparked by guard Stanley Robinson. Robinson scored 20 points overall, including nine during this crucial stretch, which pushed the Comets ahead by 48-38. “When I make one shot, I already know that I am going to keep going,” Robinson shared, reflecting on his momentum during the game.

Despite a valiant effort from Lorain, whose players Jeremiah Daniels and Javell Morris combined for 45 points, the Titans struggled with consistency and faced 17 turnovers compared to Amherst’s six. Coach Matthew Kielian noted, “The referees let us play, and it really was not in our favor to let us play, because (Amherst) was being a little bit more physical than we were defensively.”

As the Comets continued their strong performance, the Titans’ inability to adapt proved costly. Lorain, now at a challenging 1-7, will look to rebound when they host Avon Lake on December 27. Meanwhile, Amherst is riding high and will face Keystone on December 30.

Bray praised his team’s resilience, stating, “This group is really fun, but they do not get too high and never get too low.” The Comets’ ability to maintain focus and intensity will be critical as they move forward in the season.
