Author Colleen Hoover, known for her bestselling novel It Ends With Us, has provided a positive update regarding her health after previously announcing a cancer diagnosis. On January 16, 2024, Hoover took to social media to clarify that she is now cancer-free, following successful surgery and radiation treatment.
“Just clarification because of some misleading clickbait making it sound like I’m on my deathbed or something, but I do not have cancer anymore,” Hoover stated in a Facebook post. She expressed relief about the outcome, noting, “I am done and good and all is well and has been well. My doctors doctored. Hell yeah.”
Details of Her Diagnosis and Recovery
Hoover first revealed her diagnosis in December 2023, explaining that she had been experiencing health issues while filming her movie Reminders of Him in Canada. “I continued to put off my health issues until the movie was finished. When I returned home, I found out I had cancer,” she shared at the time. Fortunately, she did not require chemotherapy, and her cancer was successfully removed through surgery.
Reflecting on her experience, Hoover noted that while the diagnosis was daunting, she felt grateful for the relatively quick resolution. “It felt huge and scary for a bit, and I had to miss out on the Regretting You premiere and some other important career and personal moments,” she said. She emphasized the importance of paying attention to one’s health, saying, “I do feel the need to give the obligatory ‘listen to your body’ remark.”
In a follow-up post, Hoover revealed that genetic testing indicated her cancer was not hereditary and did not stem from the two main causes, HPV and excessive hormones. Instead, she speculated that environmental factors, such as lack of exercise and poor diet, could have contributed to her condition.
Looking Ahead
As Hoover nears the end of her radiation treatment at Texas Oncology, she has expressed gratitude for her medical team. In an Instagram Story, she shared a photo of herself in a hospital gown, stating, “I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @texas.oncology, but they’ve been pretty great.”
Hoover’s health journey has resonated with her fans, and she continues to inspire with her candid approach to discussing her experiences. As she moves forward, she remains appreciative of her recovery and the support she has received during this challenging time.
Through her updates, Hoover aims to highlight the importance of being proactive about health, encouraging others to listen to their bodies and seek medical advice when something feels off. Her journey serves as a reminder of resilience and the power of timely medical intervention.
