Girls’ Team Secures Hard-Fought Win
In the girls’ contest, Isabelle Foglesong and Mickey Bucklin both achieved double-digit scoring, leading the team to a critical win. Mallory Sipma contributed significantly with a career-high 11 rebounds. The Tigerhawks went into the holiday break with a three-game winning streak, improving their conference record to 2-3 and overall record to 4-4 after a challenging start of 1-4.
The game unfolded with Colfax-Mingo leading 12-10 at the end of the first quarter and extending their advantage to 24-17 by halftime. However, BGM made a strong comeback, taking a two-point lead after three quarters. In a decisive final quarter, the Tigerhawks outscored their opponents 12-4, sealing the victory.
Foglesong led the scoring for Colfax-Mingo with 15 points, along with two rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Bucklin added 10 points and three rebounds, while Sipma’s performance included four points and her 11 rebounds. Other contributors included Lydia Hansen with six points and six rebounds, Dakota Allen with seven points and five boards, and Katelyn Steenhoek, who secured four rebounds. The team shot 35 percent from the field, making 3-of-12 from three-point range and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line, despite committing 23 turnovers.
Boys’ Team Falls Short Against BGM
In the boys’ matchup, despite a standout performance from Wyatt Jay, who scored a career-high 21 points, the Tigerhawks could not overcome BGM. Jay added seven rebounds to his impressive tally, yet the team ended the day with a 1-4 record in conference play.
Chase Trotter contributed eight points and five rebounds, while Izaiah Lewis, Wyatt Thornton, and Alex Teed each scored four points. Weston Boehm chipped in three points, along with four rebounds and a career-best seven assists. The Tigerhawks shot 45.7 percent from the field, but struggled from beyond the arc, making only 2-of-11 attempts, while converting 5-of-6 free throws. They also recorded 18 turnovers during the game.
BGM’s performance was led by Beau Burns, who scored 20 points, and Maddox Rhoads, who added 12. The Bears shot 46.7 percent from the floor, hitting 5-of-13 from three-point range and 14-of-18 from the free-throw line, while committing 13 turnovers. With this victory, BGM improved to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in SICL play.
