A recent post from a social media account linked to Mossad alleges that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, spends his days sleeping and using drugs. The account, which claims to be the official Farsi-language spokesperson for the Israeli intelligence agency, has made provocative statements about Khamenei’s leadership.
The post questioned, “How can a leader lead when they sleep half the day and spend the other half high on substances?” This startling claim comes in the wake of a 12-day conflict that has heightened tensions in the region. The account has emerged as a new platform for Mossad, characterized by its critical stance towards the Iranian regime.
Mossad’s New Communication Strategy
The Mossad account, which is gaining attention for its unusual approach, has attracted the scrutiny of intelligence experts. Zvi Yehezkeli, an Arab affairs commentator for i24News, noted that this account represents a “new battlefield tool.” He explained that the disillusionment of the Iranian populace with their government allows Mossad to operate differently in Iran compared to other countries.
Another expert, Beny Sabti from Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies, concurred that some of the information shared by the account could only originate from Mossad. This unconventional method of communication marks a significant shift in how intelligence agencies engage with both domestic and international audiences.
Previous Allegations and Context
Claims regarding Khamenei’s alleged drug use are not new. In a 2022 television interview on a channel affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, Nour Mohamed Omara, an Iranian academic, stated that Khamenei frequently uses drugs. He claimed that the Supreme Leader has a special village in Balochistan where drugs are produced, suggesting that this area is controlled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Despite these allegations, Khamenei has publicly denounced drug use as “un-Islamic,” particularly since the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The Islamic Republic enforces severe penalties for drug-related offenses, including the death penalty.
As of now, Mossad has not confirmed or denied its involvement with the social media account or the claims regarding Khamenei’s drug use. The situation continues to unfold, raising questions about the implications of such allegations for both Iranian leadership and international relations.
