The CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS) girls soccer playoffs continued over the weekend, showcasing thrilling matches that determined which teams would advance to the quarterfinals. Notably, in the Open Division, strong performances from teams like Santa Margarita and Mater Dei secured their spots in the next round.
Results from Saturday’s Matches
In the Open Division, the second leg of a two-game series saw Santa Margarita clinch a 2-1 victory over Corona Santiago, ensuring their advancement. Mater Dei dominated their match against Huntington Beach, winning 5-0. Additionally, JSerra and Redondo Union ended in a scoreless draw, with JSerra progressing due to the aggregate score.
In Division 1, the second round also produced notable outcomes. Westlake narrowly defeated El Dorado 2-1, while Rosary secured a 2-0 win against Great Oak. Orange Lutheran showcased their strength with a commanding 4-0 victory over San Juan Hills, and Newport Harbor edged out Moorpark with a 1-0 win. Other results included Roosevelt defeating Edison 2-1 and Etiwanda beating Canyon 2-1. Harvard-Westlake also progressed with a 1-0 victory over Pacifica, while Notre Dame/SO secured a narrow victory against Capistrano Valley.
Quarterfinal Schedule and Upcoming Matches
Looking ahead, the quarterfinals will take place on Wednesday. Rosary will face Westlake, while Orange Lutheran is set to compete against Newport Harbor.
In Division 2, Ayala triumphed with a 4-0 win over Beckman, and Portola squeezed past Crean Lutheran with a 1-0 victory. Warren advanced on penalties after a 1-1 draw against La Habra. The upcoming quarterfinals will see Portola take on San Marino.
In Division 3, La Salle edged out Fullerton 1-0, while Quartz Hill secured a close 3-2 victory over Sage Hill. La Canada advanced after a 2-2 draw with Costa Mesa, winning on penalties.
Division 4 results featured San Jacinto defeating Katella 2-0 and Laguna Hills winning 1-0 against Tahquitz. The quarterfinal match for Laguna Hills remains to be determined.
In Division 5, Anaheim won against Ramona with a score of 1-0, and Kennedy also achieved a 1-0 victory over Santa Paula. Kennedy will face Sultana in the quarterfinals.
Finally, in Division 6, Ocean View triumphed over Desert Hot Springs 3-2, while Segerstrom secured a decisive 3-0 win against Riverside Prep. The upcoming quarterfinals feature Ocean View against Adelanto and Segerstrom facing Arroyo Valley.
