BREAKING: Chase Sui Wonders is set to join the highly anticipated Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot on Hulu. In an exclusive conversation with DECIDER at the inaugural Televerse Fest in Los Angeles, the actress revealed her excitement about working alongside the original Buffy, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who will also play a key role in the series.
Wonders expressed her admiration for Gellar, stating, “I think Sarah Michelle Gellar is a legend and she’s very involved in the series.” The actress mentioned that Gellar’s presence on set is invaluable, as she offers guidance about the Buffy universe: “You can consult her about anything… she grew up on that set.”
According to reports from DEADLINE, Wonders will portray a character named “Shirley,” who is believed to be a vampire and will appear as a guest star in the pilot episode directed by Chloé Zhao. This promising reboot aims to introduce a new generation to the iconic vampire-slaying story, featuring Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the new Buffy Summers.
Wonders shared how Gellar has not only provided insights into the supernatural realm of vampires but has also offered advice on navigating Hollywood and the sci-fi genre. “She gives me advice on everything… she really leads by example,” Wonders said, emphasizing Gellar’s influence on her career.
The original series, which captivated audiences in the late 1990s, followed Gellar’s character as she battled vampires and demons alongside friends like Willow and Xander. In the upcoming series, Gellar’s character will mentor a new high school student, Nova, as she faces her own vampire-slaying challenges.
This isn’t the first time Wonders has stepped into the realm of legacy reboots. Earlier this summer, she starred in the reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer alongside a cast that includes Madelyn Cline and Jonah Hauer-King. Both Gellar and her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., who met on the set of the original film, made appearances in the remake.
Fans eagerly await the release of the new Buffy series, with its fresh take on a beloved classic. For those looking to catch up, all seasons of the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer are available on Tubi, Hulu, and Disney+.
Currently, Hulu offers a 30-day free trial for new subscribers, with plans starting at $9.99/month after the trial period. For an ad-free experience, the subscription is priced at $18.99/month.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story and the premiere of the Buffy reboot as fans prepare for a thrilling return to the vampire-slaying saga.
