Central United Methodist Church (UMC) will host its second annual “Night to Shine” event on February 13, 2026. This celebration, organized in partnership with the Tim Tebow Foundation, aims to honor individuals with special needs from East Mississippi and West Alabama. The event is free for participants aged 14 and older and emphasizes the importance of community and inclusivity.
“Night to Shine” is part of a global initiative allowing local churches to provide a night of celebration for those with disabilities. Guests can look forward to various activities, including hair and makeup stations, shoeshines, and the opportunity to receive corsages and boutonnieres. The evening will culminate in a grand Red Carpet Entrance, where attendees will be greeted with cheers and photo opportunities.
The festivities will also feature karaoke, gifts, a catered dinner, and spaces designed for sensory comfort and respite for parents and caregivers. The highlight of the evening is a crowning ceremony, celebrating each guest as a king or queen, reflecting the value and dignity assigned to them by their community.
Event Coordinator Sabrina Williams expressed her excitement about the upcoming gathering. The inaugural event in 2025 was a resounding success, leaving attendees, volunteers, and caregivers with lasting memories. “The enthusiasm of our guests was overwhelming! The smiles on their faces gave every parent and caregiver, every volunteer, a sense of joy and gratitude for this special night,” she noted.
Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive. One guest from the previous year described the experience as “the best night of my life!” This sentiment echoes the mission of the event, which is to create an atmosphere of joy and acceptance.
More than 100 volunteers from various churches and organizations contribute their time and resources to make this event possible. The church invites anyone interested in volunteering, sponsoring, or donating to get involved. Prospective volunteers can contact Central UMC at 601-693-1521 or visit the Night to Shine-Meridian Facebook page for further details.
As a former volunteer put it, “If you think you are blessing our guests by volunteering, guess what? You are the one who will be blessed! Come join the fun! There is a spot just for you!” For those wishing to support the event financially, donations can be made through the Community Foundation of East Mississippi earmarked for Night to Shine.
This event stands as a testament to the power of community support and the joy of inclusivity, inviting everyone to celebrate and uplift those with special needs.
