Born Mildred Jane Brown in Kearney, Nebraska, and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Mimi was a passionate advocate for music and the arts throughout her life.
Mimi earned degrees in Music Education and the Arts from both the University of Missouri and the University of Southern California. Her commitment to education was a cornerstone of her life, influencing countless students and aspiring artists. She was married to Dr. William Wilson, the former Director of Diagnostic Radiology at Memorial Medical Center in Long Beach, California. Together, they raised five children in the scenic community of Palos Verdes, where Mimi’s artistic talents flourished.
Legacy of Creativity and Community Engagement
In Palos Verdes, Mimi co-founded the New Place Theater Company, where she directed numerous theatrical productions, showcasing her love for performance arts. She also played a vital role in promoting the Palos Verdes Ballet, collaborating closely with renowned figures such as Fay Gillette and Uta Graf-Apostol. Her contributions to the local arts scene were widely recognized and celebrated.
After relocating to Ridgewood, New Jersey, Mimi embarked on a second career in real estate while continuing her active involvement in community and church activities. Her passion for creativity extended to painting, where she developed her skills into a fulfilling pursuit. Family gatherings, particularly those spent at the shore, were among her most cherished moments.
Mimi is survived by her five children: Susan, Chris, Nancy, Bill, and AliceAnn. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, along with her brother, Robert Brown. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Scollay.
