UPDATE: Carson Melendy, a standout wrestler from Fallon, has just secured two impressive second-place finishes at major tournaments, demonstrating his resilience and skill in the ring.

Just days ago, Melendy clinched second place at the Sierra Nevada Classic at the Reno Events Center, competing in the 165-pound category. His performance helped the Greenwave team finish 19th out of 92 teams, marking a significant achievement for a team still finding its footing this season. The tournament concluded on February 6, 2024.

Following this, Melendy continued his strong showing at the Rollie Lane Invitational in Nampa, Idaho, just two days later, where he again claimed second place. In the finals of the SNC, Melendy’s only loss of the season came against Junipero Serra’s Sebastian Garcia, ending a remarkable run where he went 5-1 with three pins and a technical fall.

His recent performances are particularly noteworthy as they come after he missed vital matches earlier this season due to illness. Melendy, now in his final year, is on track to pursue his fourth state title, and his current trajectory shows he is a strong contender for the championship.

At the SNC, Melendy’s success was mirrored by several teammates. Notable performances included Wyatt Lambert, who went 3-2 at 157 pounds, and Manuel Barros, also 3-2 at 113 pounds. Both wrestlers showcased their talent with significant early victories, although they faced elimination in the later rounds.

The Greenwave’s upcoming schedule includes a dual meet against Fernley this Wednesday before heading to the Steave Deaton Memorial in Minden this weekend. The anticipation builds as Melendy and his teammates prepare to further establish their dominance on the mat.

Meanwhile, the girls’ wrestling team from Fallon faced challenges at the SNC but rebounded at the Sparks Invitational. Peyton Heckman won her weight class, while Saraphine Luna and Tabitha Brockelsby both secured second place in their categories.

With a mix of seasoned competitors and emerging talent, the Greenwave wrestling program continues to demonstrate its depth and resilience, making headlines as they push through the season.

Stay tuned for more updates as these talented athletes aim for success in the upcoming matches. The stakes are high, and every performance counts as they vie for top honors in Nevada’s wrestling scene.
