BYD is set to expand its electric vehicle offerings with the introduction of the new Yuan Max SUV. This latest addition was recently spotted in China, showcasing a design reminiscent of the popular Yuan Plus model. The heavily camouflaged vehicle was captured in spy images, indicating that it will likely retain a similar front-end and silhouette to the Yuan Plus, which is known internationally as the Atto 3.

The newly emerged images from the Chinese news outlet Autohome suggest that while the Yuan Max shares design elements with its predecessor, its C-Pillar appears elongated, hinting at a size closer to the Song Pro. For context, the Yuan Plus measures 4,455 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, while the Song Pro has a length of 4,735 mm and a wheelbase of 2,712 mm. Such dimensions indicate that the Yuan Max will fill a crucial gap in BYD’s expanding electric SUV lineup.

Interior visuals reveal the Chinese character for “Yuan” prominently displayed on the steering wheel. The interior design aligns with BYD’s current aesthetic, featuring a floating central infotainment screen and a compact driver display. Currently, the Yuan series includes the Yuan Plus and Yuan Up, which are among BYD’s best-selling models, rebranded as the Atto 2 and Atto 3 in international markets.

Data from CnEVPost shows that BYD sold over 393,000 Yuan vehicles in the first eleven months of the year, accounting for 9.4% of the company’s total sales. The upcoming Yuan Max is anticipated to be the largest model in the Yuan series and may offer a third row of seating, catering to families and those needing additional passenger space.

The timing of this unveiling follows BYD’s announcement of two premium flagship electric vehicles earlier this month: the Seal 08 sedan and the Sealion 08 SUV. Both are expected to debut in early 2026 and will highlight BYD’s latest advancements in software and autonomous driving technology.

As BYD continues to innovate in the electric vehicle sector, the Yuan Max is poised to strengthen the brand’s position in a competitive market. The company’s ongoing commitment to expanding its SUV lineup underscores its strategy to appeal to a wider range of consumers, further solidifying its role in the global transition to electric mobility.
