The Boys and Girls Clubs of Copperas Cove hosted its fourth annual Day for Kids Car Show on September 30, 2023, celebrating the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly established Hearts Renewed Counseling Center. The event brought together families, local officials, and community members, highlighting the organization’s commitment to youth development.
Unit Director Khrystal Westeen expressed gratitude for the support received, especially on a day filled with competing events in Copperas Cove, including the Heritage Festival and a block party. “That’s what I’m so thankful for,” Westeen stated. “Even with all the other events happening today, the city of Copperas Cove still came out to support us. I’m thankful for the people that did come out and hung out with us for the time they had.”
Among the attendees were City Council members Vonya Hart and Dale Treadway, representatives from the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce, Kevin Keller, the city’s Public Information Officer, and Inez Faison, a former school board member recognized as one of the club’s most significant donors.
The car show served as a major attraction for adults, while the event’s focus remained on children. A range of activities catered to younger attendees, including a soapy foam party organized by Magic Display, a petting zoo, and a bounce house. Inside the main building, children enjoyed crafts, face painting, and a Lego building table, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
The opening of the Hearts Renewed Counseling Center coincided with the event, reinforcing the club’s mission to provide support for children and families in the community. Westeen emphasized the importance of fundraising efforts, stating, “Everything we do, all the money we raise, goes back to the kids. It’s to help encourage people to come out and spend time with their families.”
The Day for Kids Car Show is one of the organization’s largest annual fundraisers, showcasing the community’s dedication to supporting local youth. The event not only highlights the club’s objectives but also fosters a sense of unity and engagement within Copperas Cove.
