Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) recognized outstanding community contributions on October 17, 2025, during its annual Healthy Community Awards ceremony. Held at the Boulder County Southeast Hub in Lafayette, the event honored individuals and organizations that have made significant strides in promoting health, equity, and resilience within the community.

Among the attendees were notable figures such as BCPH Executive Director Lexi Nolen, Board of Health member Landrey Fagan, and Boulder County Commissioner Marta Loachamin. The ceremony highlighted the hard work and dedication of those who go above and beyond to foster a healthier Boulder County. Nolen articulated the importance of collaboration in public health, stating that the awards symbolize the interconnectedness of community strength and partnerships.

One of the key honorees, Lisa Allen from Boulder Community Health, was recognized for her pioneering efforts in integrating the Family Connects program into postpartum care. This initiative has positively impacted nearly 900 families by addressing issues related to maternal anxiety and depression, while also advancing racial equity in healthcare access.

Another recipient, Gapter Septic Systems & Excavation, has been a cornerstone of the Boulder community since the disco era. Their commitment to environmental stewardship was exemplified by their initiative to provide free septic lid replacements following the Marshall Fire, reflecting their dedication to maintaining clean water resources in Boulder County.

Pharmacy manager Melissa Bonomo of Albertsons was lauded for her exceptional efforts in vaccine administration. She trained 10 pharmacy technicians and organized mobile clinics that successfully delivered over 10,000 vaccines within a single year. Bonomo also prioritized vulnerable populations, ensuring that individuals at the Boulder Homeless Shelter received critical vaccinations.

Additionally, UpRoot Colorado was recognized for its impactful work in nutrition and climate action. The organization salvaged and distributed over 520 pounds of local farm produce to families in need, while also promoting child nutrition and fostering community partnerships.

The 2025 Healthy Community Awards ceremony served as a reminder of the vital role that local changemakers play in enhancing the quality of life for residents in Boulder County. Through their innovative programs and tireless efforts, these individuals and organizations continue to inspire others to contribute to the public good, reinforcing the community’s commitment to equity and health for all.
