Boston Legacy FC has taken a significant step towards finalizing its roster for the inaugural season by signing forward Amanda Allen to a two-year deal. Announced on Friday, this acquisition brings the club closer to the league-minimum roster of 22 players, with just six spots remaining. Allen joins the Legacy as a free agent from Orlando Pride, where she made headlines in 2023 as the youngest player ever signed by the club at just 18 years old.
In a statement, Allen expressed her enthusiasm about the club’s vision. “They want to build something [in Boston] that is centered around family, and that is huge for me,” she said. Her commitment to a supportive environment is evident, as she emphasized the importance of feeling comfortable with teammates and having a solid support system.
A Bright Future for the Forward
Originally from Mississauga, Ontario, Allen has made her mark in the Canadian youth national system. She showcased her talent by representing Canada in the 2022 Concacaf Women’s U17 Championship and the 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup. Additionally, she made her senior national team debut at age 17 during a friendly match against Brazil in November 2022.
The Legacy’s general manager, Domè Guasch, praised Allen’s potential: “Amanda is a young player with a very high ceiling. She brings a range of experiences that have helped shape her game, and she arrives highly motivated to make an impact in the NWSL.”
Allen’s journey in professional soccer has included 11 games with the Pride before a loan to Lexington Sporting Club in the USL Super League. There, she played nine matches but faced a setback with a shoulder injury that required recovery time. After healing, she joined Halifax Tides FC in the Canadian Northern Super League, where she made 11 appearances and scored one goal.
Coaching Connections Influence Decision
A key factor in Allen’s decision to join Boston was her admiration for Legacy coach Filipa Patão. “She’s very invested into young players,” Allen noted. “I’m so excited to work with her, and she’s somebody who I really want to play for. I really want to show her what I’m capable of and show Boston what I’m capable of as well.”
As the Legacy prepares for its inaugural season, the team will primarily host home games at Gillette Stadium while renovations take place at White Stadium. Due to scheduling conflicts arising from the men’s World Cup, some games will also be played at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
The Legacy’s home opener is set for 12:30 p.m. on March 14, 2026, at Gillette Stadium. Venue assignments for the remaining 29 games will be determined when the league publishes the full schedule.
Fans can look forward to a promising season ahead as Boston Legacy FC continues to build its squad with young talent like Amanda Allen.
