Beta Film has acquired the international distribution rights for the Bosnian mystery crime series “Komar,” which premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival one year ago. The series, produced by BH Telecom through BH Content Lab, features executive production by SCCA/Pro.ba. This marks the third collaboration between Beta Film and BH Telecom, following successful projects such as “I Know Your Soul” and “The Hollow.”

The eight-hour series adds to Beta Film’s expanding portfolio of high-quality shows originating from the Balkans. Notable titles include the award-winning “Operation Sabre,” which received accolades at the Canneseries and Shanghai TV Festival, and has been described as a “masterful political thriller” by Spiegel and “a powerful and committed thriller” by Télérama.

Plot Overview and Key Personnel

“Komar” follows the story of Mersiha, whose boyfriend Miki disappears while traveling by bus through the Komar mountains. In a desperate search for him, Mersiha and her best friend Jasna embark on a journey. The narrative intensifies when some passengers awaken on the bus to find themselves isolated in the wilderness, cut off from communication with the outside world. As they delve deeper into the mystery, they encounter dark forces that threaten their quest for answers.

The series is helmed by showrunner Timur Makarevic, with directing responsibilities shared between Vedran Rupic and Una Gunjak. The lead roles are portrayed by Lejla Hakalovic, Pia Vrdoljak, and Igor Skvarica.

Industry Presence at Sarajevo Film Festival

At this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival, Beta Film is represented by Julia Schweiger, a senior executive in the Kids & YA division. Schweiger will participate in the Cinelink panel titled “From SKAM to SRAM: Youth Drama, Public Broadcasters, and the Power of Adaptation.”

The acquisition of “Komar” underscores Beta Film’s commitment to bringing compelling narratives from the Balkans to a global audience, enhancing the cultural exchange within the international film industry.
