Fremantle has appointed Ben Crompton as its new global head of entertainment, effective later this month. Previously, Crompton served as vice president of international unscripted programming at NBCUniversal. His extensive career also includes leadership roles at Lime Pictures, where he managed operations in the United States, and senior positions at Warner Brothers in Australia, Eyeworks, and ITV Studios in the United Kingdom.

Crompton succeeds Andrew Llinares, who recently stepped down after a three-year tenure in the role. Reporting directly to Jennifer Mullin, Fremantle’s Global CEO, Crompton expressed enthusiasm about joining the company. “It is a great honour for me to be joining Fremantle and to work with Jennifer and such a brilliant team,” he stated. He has long admired Fremantle for its “creativity, innovation, and groundbreaking formats,” and looks forward to collaborating with the talented workforce within the organization.

Strategic Changes at Fremantle

The appointment of Crompton follows a series of strategic hires aimed at bolstering Fremantle’s television division. Recently, Jhamal Robinson was named the head of U.S. productions, covering both scripted and unscripted content, while Emily Knight became the senior vice president of unscripted development. These changes are part of Fremantle’s broader strategy to enhance its global footprint in entertainment.

Mullin commented on Crompton’s appointment, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Ben to Fremantle. He is a business-minded leader with a deep understanding of the industry, not only from a development and production perspective, but also from a commercial and strategic viewpoint.” She emphasized the exciting prospects ahead as the company aims to push creative boundaries while building on its recent successes.

Fremantle, under the ownership of German broadcaster RTL Group, is recognized as one of the leading independent production companies worldwide. The company boasts a diverse portfolio of global formats, including The Masked Singer, The X Factor, and Got Talent. According to its internal statistics, Fremantle delivered 345 commissions and 302 productions across 62 territories last year.

Crompton’s extensive background in creative and strategic roles positions him well to navigate the changing landscape of global entertainment. His vision aligns with Fremantle’s commitment to innovation, which is crucial as the company continues to adapt to industry trends and audience preferences.

As Crompton steps into this pivotal role, the entertainment industry will be watching closely to see how his leadership will shape Fremantle’s future initiatives and productions.
