Born into a family that appreciated the arts, Ruth began her musical journey at the young age of five. She played the piano and sang in church choirs throughout her life. Her most notable role was as an Eb horn player for the Salvation Army Band, where she shared her gift with many. Ruth’s commitment to music was matched only by her faith, as she remained a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church.

Community Contributions and Family Legacy

Ruth’s involvement with the church extended beyond her musical talent. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Women and served as a bookkeeper for St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Suffolk. Her contributions were not only musical but also administrative, demonstrating her dedication to her faith community.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard “Barney” L. Nawyn, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage. Additionally, Ruth was preceded in death by her son Kenneth Nawyn and his wife, Rochelle Nawyn. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Nawyn Weitekamp, and her husband, Anthony Weitekamp. Ruth also leaves behind her granddaughter Chantel Nawyn and her husband, Bill Belcourt, grandson Eric Nawyn, and great-grandson Aiden Belcourt, all of whom will remember her fondly.

Ruth’s family has expressed their deep sorrow at her passing, reflecting on her nurturing spirit and the love she brought to the family. Her legacy will continue through her children and grandchildren, who cherished the time spent with her.
