Ruth E. Miller, a cherished figure in her community and a passionate music educator, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, at Manatawny Manor in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. She was 98 years old. Ruth was the devoted wife of the late Ralph “Lefty” S. Miller, with whom she shared an enduring marriage of 61 years until his death on July 18, 2013.
Born on November 3, 1926, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Ruth was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Rhoda (Embody) Miller. She graduated from Boyertown High School in 1944 and furthered her education at West Chester University, where she pursued her lifelong dream of teaching music.
Ruth’s professional journey began as an administrative assistant at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, a position that led her to meet her future husband. Music remained a central passion throughout her life. She played the violin with the Pottstown Symphony Orchestra and participated at the Saugerties Music Camp, nurturing young talents with her knowledge and experience.
Her gentle and caring nature defined her interactions with family and friends, and she will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Rebecca High of Annapolis, Maryland, and Melissa Zipay of New Berlinville, Pennsylvania. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Nathan Zipay and Kacie Widmann, as well as her great-grandchildren, Finley and Hazie. Nathan and Emily are expecting twins, adding to the family’s legacy of love and togetherness.
Family and friends are encouraged to gather for Ruth’s visitation on September 2, 2025, from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Houck & Gofus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, located at 955 N. Charlotte St., Pottstown, PA 19464. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with interment taking place afterward at Mount Zion Cemetery, 225 E. Schuylkill Rd., Pottstown, PA 19465.
