Linda Gudmundson Leete, a cherished educator and community leader, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born on April 29, 1950, in Merced, California, where she was the second of four children to Westerdahl and Norma Gudmundson. Linda’s family moved to San Rafael in 1957, where she spent most of her childhood and early adult years.
Linda attended San Rafael High School, where she met her future husband, Paul Leete, during her senior year. Their relationship blossomed into a lifelong partnership. She also led the school’s drama department, producing numerous theatre productions that filled her with joy and pride. Later, she taught English at Butte Community College and returned to education at both Chapman Elementary School and Blue Oak Charter School.
In addition to her teaching career, Linda and Paul engaged in real estate, purchasing homes to remodel and sell. This venture ignited their passion for home design, leading to a successful career in property development. Linda’s talent for creating floor plans and her keen eye for design contributed significantly to several well-known residential subdivisions and commercial complexes in Chico.
Linda held a deep appreciation for education, politics, and current affairs. She was an avid reader and loved engaging in political debates. Above all, her greatest joy came from her family. She prioritized her children, Christine and Tim, considering them to be her heart and soul. Her love for her grandchildren was boundless, and she attended every activity, performance, and sporting event they participated in.
Following the passing of her husband in 2021, Linda grew even closer to her sister-in-law, Pam Young. Together, they enjoyed many experiences, including taking courses at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) and participating in Zumba sessions, which fostered both learning and laughter.
