UPDATE: In a decisive move underscoring exceptional leadership, Belding Area Schools Superintendent Brent Noskey has received an impressive 99% rating during his annual evaluation, confirming his effectiveness in steering the district forward.

During a school board meeting held on October 23, 2023, members evaluated Noskey’s performance across critical categories including governance, community relations, and instructional leadership. The unanimous vote from the board reflects confidence in his abilities, as he continues to navigate the challenges facing education today.

Noskey, who has led Belding Area Schools since 2016, secured a final weighted score of 2.98 out of 3, achieving the highest possible mark in four out of five evaluation categories. Board President Terry Boni praised Noskey’s ongoing contributions, stating, “We found Mr. Noskey just as effective as he was before. He did really well.”

The evaluation, which categorizes performance ratings as “effective,” “developing,” or “needing support,” marks another successful year for Noskey, who has consistently received scores above 92% throughout his tenure. His ability to foster community connections and maintain a strong educational culture has been highlighted as key to the district’s success.

“His relationship with the staff has really shined,” Boni added. “He’s hiring the right people, which is very important for the district,”

Under Noskey’s leadership, Belding Area Schools has managed significant challenges, including a drop in student enrollment from 1,875 in the 2016-17 school year to 1,652 in 2024-25, a decline of 12% over nine years. Despite these hurdles, the district has maintained a healthy financial standing, operating with a general fund balance of 15% to 20% of annual expenditures.

Noskey’s commitment to the community is evident as he actively participates in local events, further solidifying relationships within the district. “There’s something special about Belding,” he noted, emphasizing the small community feel that fosters a family-like atmosphere.

The school board’s strong support for Noskey extends beyond evaluations; they have built a collaborative relationship that enhances the educational environment. “We have a great board, and because we’re willing to work with Mr. Noskey, that helps both of us to develop a good school system while supporting the staff,” Boni remarked.

In response to his successful evaluation, Noskey expressed gratitude for the board’s trust, stating, “I’m obviously pleased with the evaluation. I know the board has some faith in me and supports me.” He credits his administrative team for their dedication and support throughout his decade-long tenure.

Noskey currently earns a base salary of $157,725, with no changes made to his contract following this evaluation. As he continues to lead, both the board and community look forward to further advancements in Belding Area Schools.
