URGENT UPDATE: Barton County residents can celebrate New Year’s Eve responsibly with the return of the New Year’s Eve Taxi, running from 6 p.m. on December 31 until 3 a.m. on January 1. For a minimum donation of just $10 per person, party-goers can secure a safe ride home anywhere in Barton County.
The service, organized by the Great Bend Police Department in partnership with Eagle Radio, aims to ensure everyone gets home safely after celebrations. An off-duty officer will be behind the wheel, emphasizing that this service is strictly for returning home, not for continuing to other parties or bars.
Residents can call 620-639-TAXI (620-639-8294) to arrange their rides. Proceeds from this initiative will support the Shop with a Cop program, which provides holiday gifts to local children in need.
This year, Eagle Radio has committed to matching donations up to $500, amplifying the impact of each contribution. The New Year’s Eve Taxi is made possible thanks to sponsors including Nex-Tech Wireless, which is providing phones for the service, alongside Miller Plastics, Z’s Liquor, and Z’s Liquor Mart. Additional support comes from Haz-Mat Response, Rosencrantz Bemis Water Well Company, and Freedom Claims Management.
As celebrations ramp up, this initiative is a crucial step in promoting safety and community support during the festive season. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this affordable service and share this information widely to ensure a safe New Year’s Eve for all.
