The Arizona Wildcats have strengthened their roster by securing a commitment from former Georgetown linebacker Cooper Blomstrom. This addition marks a significant step in the Wildcats’ efforts to enhance their defensive lineup as they prepare for competition in the Big 12 Conference.
Blomstrom, standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 245 pounds, brings valuable experience with him to Tucson. Over the course of three seasons at Georgetown, he participated in 31 games, earning 19 starts. His collegiate career includes an impressive tally of 117 tackles, with 27 of those for loss, along with 16 sacks, five forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and an interception.
His performance at Georgetown earned him recognition as a two-time all-conference selection in the Patriot League. Blomstrom played primarily on the defensive line for the Hoyas but is expected to transition to linebacker for Arizona. This change could see him take on a role similar to that of Riley Wilson, who played as both an edge rusher and outside linebacker during the 2025 season.
Blomstrom’s standout season in 2025 garnered him First Team All-Patriot League honors. He concluded the year with 47 tackles, including 11.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks, alongside three forced fumbles. His statistics position him as one of the top defensive players in the FCS, further solidifying Arizona’s hopes for impactful contributions from their new recruit.
The Wildcats are looking to bolster their linebacker corps as they return experienced players such as Taye Brown, who has logged 24 games at linebacker, and Chase Kennedy, who started the last seven games of the previous season. Additionally, underclassmen Jabari Mann and Myron Robinson are poised to contribute. Robinson, who previously started at Cincinnati, will be looking to make a comeback after an injury.
Blomstrom is the third player Arizona has added from the NCAA transfer portal, marking the first defensive addition for the team this offseason. He joins a recruiting class that includes Dash Fifita, the younger brother of Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita, indicating a promising future for the Wildcats as they continue to rebuild and strengthen their program.
