A number of churches in the Pottstown area are set to hold worship services and special events this Sunday, February 15, 2024, with several activities planned in anticipation of the upcoming Lent season. These gatherings aim to foster community spirit and provide support for local members.

Worship Services Scheduled Across Pottstown

St. John’s UCC, located at 11 S. Price St., invites the community to celebrate Transfiguration Sunday with a service at 10:15 a.m. The service will also be available for viewing on YouTube later in the day. In addition, the church will host a virtual Ash Wednesday service on February 18, 2024, allowing participants to engage at their convenience. The Little Pantry at St. John’s is stocked weekly with essential items, including food and personal care products, to assist those in need. Furthermore, food collection efforts are currently underway to support Operation 143.

At First Presbyterian Church, situated at 750 N. Evans St., Faith and Friendship gatherings will begin at 9:15 a.m. followed by worship at 10:30 a.m. This church encourages fellowship and spiritual growth through its various programs.

Zion’s United Church of Christ will also observe Transfiguration Sunday at 10:15 a.m. The service is accessible online via Facebook at ZionsUCC. The church will join with Trinity Reformed UCC for Ash Wednesday services at 7:00 p.m. on February 18, where Rev. Raymond Jachowski will deliver the sermon.

Community Support and Additional Services

Bethel Community Church, located at 575 N. Keim Street, will offer Community Sunday School at 10:00 a.m., discussing “Jeremiah’s Call and Arrest.” Morning worship follows at 11:00 a.m., focusing on Black History Month. The church will hold an all-members “Church Conference” immediately after the service. Their food pantry will be closed on February 18 and will reopen on February 23 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Harvest Fellowship Church in Boyertown invites attendees to worship at 10:15 a.m. on February 15, featuring a sermon series based on the Book of Judges. Midweek programs for adults and children will take place on Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m.

Other churches, including St. Peter’s Lutheran and First Baptist Church, are also preparing for worship and community events. St. Peter’s will celebrate the Sixth Sunday after Epiphany with a Holy Communion service at 9:30 a.m., while First Baptist Church is organizing a meal and discussion at 4:30 p.m.

As the community approaches the Lenten season, several churches will conduct Ash Wednesday services on February 18, providing opportunities for reflection and spiritual renewal.
