PHILADELPHIA, PA — Aramark (NYSE: ARMK) has finalized a significant 15-year partnership with the University at Albany, aiming to transform campus dining in a way that university leaders believe will enhance student life. The initiative is set to launch in January 2026 and will reimagine food offerings, dining spaces, and overall service on the Albany, New York, campus.
Under this agreement, Aramark plans to integrate its collegiate hospitality platform with UAlbany’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, innovation, and community engagement. “At UAlbany, we believe a world-class education should be matched by a world-class environment,” stated Michael Ramella, executive director of University Auxiliary Services. He emphasized that this partnership represents an investment in student well-being and campus culture, rather than merely refreshing dining options.
Creating a Dynamic Hospitality Ecosystem
Operating under the moniker of Great Dane Hospitality, Aramark will introduce a dynamic hospitality ecosystem that aims to transform dining venues into vibrant social hubs. A focal point of this overhaul is the creation of District East, an all-you-care-to-enjoy food hall designed to enhance food choice and act as a central gathering place for the campus community.
Additionally, a Global Food Emporium, developed in collaboration with UAlbany alumnus and restaurateur Jamal Rasoully, will feature an array of cuisines from regions including Asia, India, the Middle East, and Latin America. This initiative is intended to provide a rich culinary experience while embracing diverse cultural perspectives.
Technology will play a crucial role in this transformation. The plan includes mobile ordering, self-checkout kiosks, and data-driven menu optimization to improve accessibility and service speed for students, faculty, and staff.
Emphasizing Inclusivity and Experiential Learning
The partnership also incorporates experiential learning opportunities, such as a student-operated Saxbys café located at the Massry School of Business. This initiative will offer students valuable hands-on experience in hospitality and entrepreneurship.
Inclusivity is another cornerstone of the dining initiative, with menus designed to cater to various dietary needs, including halal, kosher, plant-based, allergen-friendly, and performance-focused athletic nutrition. “This partnership is about more than food; it’s about creating an experience that supports student success and strengthens campus life,” remarked Barbara Flanagan, president and CEO of Aramark Collegiate Hospitality. She noted that the collaboration aims to establish a new standard for collegiate dining while driving engagement and fostering long-term growth.
