A new convenience store is set to open in Daleville, Alabama, following the approval of funding from the state government. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced on March 15, 2024, the awarding of a $120,000 Community Development Block Grant to support the expansion of the local convenience store chain, Robert’s Grocery. This store will be the third location in the Wiregrass region, joining existing sites in Wicksburg and Taylor.

The grant, alongside an additional $53,000 in matching funds from the city of Daleville, will be used to prepare a site located off U.S. Highway 84 and Alabama Highway 85. Governor Ivey expressed her commitment to local business growth, stating, “This grant will pave the way for an Alabama-born business to grow and prosper while providing additional jobs and commerce for the city of Daleville.”

Robert’s Grocery, known for offering groceries, deli-style foods, and fuel services, currently employs about 42 people across its two existing locations. The new Daleville site is anticipated to create an additional 15 jobs, contributing to the local economy. As part of this expansion, Robert’s Grocery plans to invest approximately $5.7 million into the new location.

The project has garnered support from various officials, including Kenneth Boswell, Director of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA). Boswell noted, “The project is an opportunity for the city of Daleville to encourage a new business, improve access to grocery items for residents, and provide additional revenue for the city.” ADECA will oversee the distribution of the grant funds, which are sourced from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

This expansion is expected to enhance not only the availability of essential goods for residents but also stimulate economic growth in Daleville. As the convenience store chain continues to grow, it reflects the ongoing efforts to support local businesses and create job opportunities in Alabama.
